Emmet Halley recently settled an action against the Health Service Executive

Mr Emmet Halley recently settled an action against the Health Service Executive on behalf of a man, aged 63, who tragically died in the back of an ambulance, whilst being transferred from University Hospital Waterford to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny. The action was taken by his wife and family.

He had been taken to UHW in the early morning of 16th April 2014 and was treated in the Emergency Department there. His condition deteriorated during the course of the day, to such an extent that he required ICU treatment. As there were no available beds in that unit in Waterford, a decision was made to transfer him by ambulance to Kilkenny, however, during the transfer, he deteriorated further and died within a short distance from UHW, despite attempts at resuscitation. He was pronounced dead in the ambulance.
